Happy fall ya’ll! Today I want to share a very inexpensive and easy fall garland DIY craft that I concocted! I love beautiful garlands, BUT they can be very pricey when someone else makes them for you, especially custom. However, I just had to have one so what better way than to take matters into my hands? And if you are new here, know that I am NOT the most crafty person. I promise. So when I say this is simple, it really is! DIY fall crafts can save a ton of money and help bring the fall atmosphere to your home.
The best part of it is, that you can make as many matching garlands for windows, doors, fireplace mantels, columns, and even garland bows for those cute fall signs as you want! The custom look without the custom price. It’s so versatile, that you can truly make it your own with different colors, textures, etc. As always with DIY projects, carve out a day and just have fun with it! So without further ado, let’s get into it!

- Craft Pipe cleaners– For adhering flowers
- 3 Ribbons of your choice
- Faux Flowers
- Thumb Tacks – For hanging
Here are some great garland ribbon options that you can mix and match with!
Step 1:Combine Ribbons and Space Out Pipe Cleaners
Once you have gathered all of your materials, measure how long you need your garland to be and begin to combine your choice of ribbons. I like to mix solid colors with one pattern for a more dynamic look. I kept going back and forth about using burlap but ultimately decided to go with the checkered look to match my throw pillows.
Now measure out about a foot and tie a pipe cleaner to the garland. Keep doing this for every foot and make sure to tie off the ends as well so they won’t unravel.
Like I said, the best thing about this is you can make it your own so it can blend effortlessly into what you already have going on.
Step 2: Adhere Flowers
This step is very simple and this is when you will start to see it coming to life! Go ahead and cut off the flower heads of your chosen faux flowers. Be sure to leave about 2 inches of stem. This is important because you are going to use that excess stem to stick your flowers in the pipe cleaner.
Now for each pipe cleaner tie, stick the flower stem down between the pipe cleaner and the garland. You can use a cluster of 2-3 flowers or one big flower. It’s up to you!
Some great choices for fall flowers include:
Step 3 – Hang Garland with Thumb Tacks
Now it’s ready to hang! Go ahead and use your thumbtacks to tack the garland at each flower onto your frame. I used some clear tape before moving on to the thumb tacks and the cool weather kept causing the tape to come unattached. I’ve found that thumbtacks have worked the best!
